Unlike most trees which have a horizontal root system, the root
of a Tongkat Ali tree grows as much as one meter straight into the
ground. This tough fiberous root penetrates deep into the earth
to obtain its nutrients. The Tongkat Ali root takes at least five
years to mature. Of an older tree (15-20 years), the root itself
can grow to a size that is taller than many people.
The medicinal benefits of Tongkat Ali are found primarily in the
